I’ve heard from a lot of you via email and postings that you think I’m “on Palin’s side because she’s a woman” — or I’ve “finally come to my senses” — citing last night’s Palin Pulled No Punches column as evidence for both POVs.
Um, did you guys (only men have said either of these things) actually READ the column? Not only am I not on Palin’s “side” — I certainly wouldn’t vote for her as a woman — she’s pretty much the antithesis of a woman I’d break bread with. I might get a kick out of her cockiness but that doesn’t mean I see us bonding over bra-straps in the near future.
My previous post about Palin wasn’t the end all and be all of my thoughts on her as a person or a VP candidate. I simply was responding to her speechifying. Which, by any standards, was delivered to maximum effect. I may not be on Palin’s side, but I’m not deaf, dumb, and blind to the appeal she will have to some people (what I think about those people is another column altogether).
Her speech at the GOP Convention last night was pretty much all I have to go on — there’s so little known and the rumors swirling are items of interest, yes, but ones that need to be examined more fully before I would comment.
A few things about Palin are known — mostly through interviews she’s given, statements she’s made, and yes, of course, I have a snapshot of where she stands on the issues. And, as I wrote yesterday, I don’t agree with her on most issues of import.
Palin’s positions on the hot button issues are not mine — but I’ll clear it up again for those of you who are a) celebrating my move to the GOP and b) besmirching my good — and proud — name as a Democrat. To wit:
I support a woman’s legal right to choose abortion. I think abstinence only is the looniest-tune ever sung. I think global warming is man-made and I do think polar bears should be listed as endangered. I don’t support John McCain and I support 100% the rights of same-sex couples to marry and enjoy similar spousal benefits and rights as heterosexual couples. I support same-sex couple and single-parent adoption. I think hate-crime laws are more important now than ever, and I don’t support the death penalty except maybe for the guy who invented real-butter, melt-in-your-mouth croissants.
Pretty much the only thing Palin and I have in common is that we’ve both smoked dope.

Isn’t it interesting that your brie eating crowd takes exception to Sara Palin, because you can not as a woman and raise a family and be a politician at the same time. Where is NOW, Gloria Allred, Gloria Steinmem?? Probably in the same holding room they hid out in during Monica-Gate.
BTW I watched your candidate Obama on O’Reiley (fair and balanced) He came as close as he could to admitting he was wrong about the surge. Boy he really believes he’s perfect and chosen.
Following the party play book it appears that Perkins is setting the stage to will blame his crack addiction on Palin

I’m with you almost 100% (except for the death penalty thing–I pretty much would want to see any person who could rape and murder a child be dismembered) and you said it better than I can.
I just cannot get the Palin thing and am rendered speechless when I hear anyone parroting the republican poop. Her speeches have been childish, immature and undignified. Remind you of anyone?????

Also, sorry you don’t support women’s rights. Lastly, I am surprised that so many intelligent people don’t see that McCain is OLD, not tuned in to the computer-age, forgets and confuses many issues and details–just like my Dad who is a good, honest, intelligent and respectable man of the same age who can’t schedule his own plane flight b/c of computer-intimidation and general anxiety over everything. Not presidential material despite his/their war-hero status!
