  1. Ms, MC, so happy to see you being a nature girl. Love these beautiful Pileated woodpeckers. Aren’t they something? You have a popular pole near your house. :) Hope to see you again soon.

  2. Gropius — aren’t they something? And then, day before yesterday, in my yard were the tiniest woodpeckers I’ve ever seen. I’m pretty sure it must have been a Downy Woodpecker because of its size. Was awfully cute. And, well, since I’m listing recent bird sightings, I’ll add that I also saw a hummingbird in my yard earlier this week.

  3. Why aren’t you an Auduboner MC?

  4. DW — not sure what an Auduboner is, but if you mean a bird nut — that’s me.

  5. Sarasota and Manatee have chapters of the National Audubon Society, but you don’t have to be an Auduboner to bird! There is a lot of learning going on on their field trips, though.
Hey, did you know that Pileated WPs were the inspiration for Woody Woodpecker? Listen to the call and Woody’s laugh.

  6. DW — I just read about a birding group in Manatee in yesterday’s paper, I think. Thanks for the tip!
