Rob Lorei and the “Conservative Assult on Public Broadcasting”
Where are you on Friday evenings at 8:30? If you’re like me, your probably often glued to your television set with the dial turned to WEDU/PBS Channel 3, watching Rob Lorei, moderate Florida’s political roundtable half-hour, “Florida This Week.” (more…)
MC on Panel Discussion tonight — Men, Women & Relationships
Intellectual … interpersonal … and it’s FREE! Tonight, from 5 to 7 p.m., I’ll be participating in a panel discussion with Dr. Larry Thompson, President of Ringling College of Art and Design, Dr. Nancy Schlossberg, noted professor of psychology and book author, Dr. Jon Yenari, a practicing physician and Assistant Professor at FSU Medical School, and I believe, the Hon. Larry Egar, Sarasota Public Defender. There is no cost to attend.
We’ll be talking about “Men, Women & Relationships” — issues of power, balance, connecting, changes from generation to generation, moderated by Dr. Willa Bernhard, former instructor at Cornell University Medical School. As usual, I’m the low woman on the totem pole in terms of bona fides, but I’ve got plenty to say about the subject!
The panel is convened for the 4th Annual Frances Kraaymes Lecture and fundraising event put on by the Women’s Resource Center of Sarasota.
Call 941.366.1700 for tickets or show up!
The Women’s Resource Center, 340 S. Tuttle Avenue, Sarasota.
Sniper love?
Yesterday, at a traffic light, I was in my car with a car in front of me. The bumper sticker on the car in front of me read:
Snipers are people who shoot from a long distance, from a concealed position, at someone usually unaware that they are in the crosshairs of a gunman.
The sentiment on the bumper sticker just struck me — why “especially” our snipers?

Read the complete story by clicking on the photo below … and tell ’em MC sent ya! (p.s. get your tickets early to save up to $10 easy!)
Sarasota firefighters for every month!
Could I get any luckier?!
At my talk at the Sarasota Democratic Club event a week ago, one of my readers and all-round great guy around town, showed up to hear me talk, but also presented me with a present from Sarasota firefighters — who had read my column about the “Monsters of Midtown” in the newspaper recently.
The present was one of their 2011/2012 monthly calendars!

Talkin’ Civility with the Democratic Club of Sarasota
A week ago, I spoke at 1350 Main Street in downtown Sarasota, as the guest of the Democratic Club of Sarasota. The turnout was fantastic — maybe 80 people, which was so great to see. And, more importantly, the people in the audience were very engaged listeners and contributed to the after-talk dialogue. (more…)

Men of Midtown — my V-Day date with Sarasota firefighters!
Could my Valentine’s Day have been any sweeter? I got to get kind of up close and person with some of the men who keep my city safe. Sense and the City column from today’s Sarasota Herald-Tribune: (more…)
Here’s myLove groove
Yesterday, I had a pretty sweet V-Day. I got to get up close and personal with some very hot firefighters (more on that later in the week). And, I took three hours off from work and went to the Ringling Museum. I felt a bit angry with myself as I was driving there — thinking, what the hell, Coolidge, you’ve got a boatload of work and you’re blowing it off for a trip to the museum? But I did it and I’m so glad I did. (more…)
